ChatGPT for Affiliate Marketing: Maximizing Your Earnings with Automation

Affiliate marketing has become a lucrative business model for many individuals and companies around the world. As the industry grows more competitive, marketers are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) tools to gain a competitive edge. For this article I will use a free version of ChatGPT and free AI image generators, however you’ll also learn how to create prompts for a paid Midjourney.  

What is ChatGPT

ChatGPT is an AI-based conversational agent developed by OpenAI. ChatGPT is designed to engage in conversations with users, providing information, answering questions, and assisting with various tasks. It can understand and generate text in multiple languages and has been trained on a wide array of topics. It uses a “prompt-response” format, where users provide a prompt or query, and the model generates a response based on the input it receives.

This is one of the most versatile tools you can use as an affiliate. 

Need an ad copy or landing page? No problem! ChatGPT can come up with the best selling texts in just a few seconds.

Need a prompt for generating an image on other AI services? ChatGPT is your best advisor.

But the key here is a prompt. 

What is a ChatGPT prompt?

A ChatGPT prompt is the set of instructions provided to the ChatGPT model to initiate a conversation or request a response. It serves as the starting point for the model to generate a relevant and coherent reply. The prompt can be a single sentence, a few sentences, or even a paragraph, depending on the desired interaction.

If you’ve already tried ChatGPT, you may have noticed that differently structured and formulated prompts can bring different results. 

Before actually delving into real examples, here are some tips on how to write the prompts which will deliver exactly the results you need.

1. Be explicit and precise

To ensure the AI understands your vision accurately, provide clear and specific instructions. The more details you provide – the more precise the answer you get. Avoid vague statements and clearly state what you want, leaving no room for misinterpretation. 

2. Provide comprehensive context

Context is crucial for effective AI prompts. Offer some background information, such as the persona you want the AI to adopt or the nature of your campaign. By incorporating context in your prompt, you guide the AI in the right direction.

3. Utilize descriptive language

In addition to the previous point, vividly describe what you want. Employing appropriate adjectives and expressive language can yield different outcomes. Instead of asking for a “funny first paragraph,” try requesting “a hilarious introduction that will leave the reader in fits of laughter.”

4. Use examples to illustrate

While AI tools are well-trained, they also benefit from specific examples. By providing relevant examples as inspiration, you help the AI grasp the style, tone, and other desired elements of your content.

5. Guide through the conversation

As we will focus on ChatGPT in this article, keep in mind that ChatGPT language model is built as an ongoing conversation, so you can write each prompt as a follow-up for the previous one, guiding the AI assistant with your additional instructions, thus, refining the output and achieving the desired outcome.

ChatGPT for copywriting purposes

Keeping in mind the tip from the previous paragraph, you have two options to write your prompt:

1. Start with a simple prompt and then guide your AI assistant with more detailed instructions.

Or

2. Jump in with detailed prompts and then adjust them along the way.

Both approaches bring the desired results, so you can choose any.

Let’s try this out without further ado. 

Multiple headlines for creatives in less than one minute

I need a headline for a Trip.com campaign for 7.7 sales, so I start out with this prompt:

You’re a seasoned copywriter, you possess an exceptional talent for persuasive writing, conversion optimization, and leveraging effective marketing techniques. Your expertise lies in creating captivating content that deeply resonates with the target audience, compelling them to take action and make informed purchasing decisions. With an innate ability to craft attention-grabbing headlines, captivating introductions, and powerful calls to action, you skillfully employ your understanding of consumer psychology to create messages that truly connect with your intended audience. You’re creating a native advertising campaign promoting a travel aggregator which offers amazing deals for booking hotels for upcoming 7.7 sales. Write 10 extremely compelling headlines for your native advertisements to entice someone to click on the banner and book a hotel.

As you see, I chose the second option, so the prompt is highly detailed and provides an environment for an answer. I instruct an AI assistant to write the headlines as a professional copywriter and I provide the description on what kind of result I want to be delivered. 

This is the ChatGPT’s response:

Also, you can give ChatGPT a direction in terms of the length of the headline right in this prompt, e.g. “The headline must be no more than 150 characters, including spaces.”

Variations of headlines to test 

I need more variations of this headline “Experience Luxury for Less: 7.7 Sales Edition Hotel Offers Await!”.

So I used this prompt:

Write 5 variations of this headline, “Experience Luxury for Less: 7.7 Sales Edition Hotel Offers Await!” Start each variation with “Experience Luxury for Less:” but write the rest of the headline differently, conveying other potential savings on hotels during the sale.

And here’s what ChatGPT offered:

• Experience Luxury for Less: Uncover Unbeatable Hotel Deals in the 7.7 Sales Extravaganza!
• Experience Luxury for Less: Score Massive Discounts on 7.7 Sales Edition Hotel Offers!

All of these variations contain different catchy verbs: “snag”, “score”, “unlock”, etc., as well as some impressive adjectives – “massive”, “unbelievable”, “unmatched”. These are the words that catch user’s attention and signal about this unique offer they cannot miss out on. And all this was delivered in half a minute! Even having years of copywriting experience under my belt, I can’t compete with ChatGPT in speed.

Translating/adapting to other languages

Translating with ChatGPT is super easy, because ChatGPT knows at least 95 languages. Quite a lot of them on native level, however, the quality and depth of its responses may vary depending on the language used. While it is trained on a diverse dataset that includes texts in multiple languages, the majority of its training data is in English. As a result, its performance in English tends to be better and more comprehensive than in other languages.

I can speak from my own experience: Besides English, I’ve tried ChatGPT in Russian and Chinese, and the results were really impressive with slight imperfections in Russian though. 

Also, keep in mind that it’s better not just ask ChatGPT to translate the text, but rather create a prompt which sets instructions to formulate the original idea in the language you need.

Here’s example of such prompt:

Your native ad campaigns are going to target an audience in Argentina. Please rewrite the headlines you created earlier (the ones starting with “Experience Luxury for Less:”) in Spanish. The headlines you write in these languages must sound natural and as if they were originally written by native Spanish speakers. Consider the target audience, the context, and any specific instructions provided earlier in our conversation. Additionally, use idiomatic expressions or cultural references to make phrases look appealing and appropriate for an audience in Argentina.

Here’s the result:

ChatGPT for image descriptions​ purposes

ChatGPT can’t generate images, but you can use other AI assistants to do it, e.g. the most popular Midjourney. However, as of this day, Midjourney isn’t free, you have to pay a fee depending on the amount of images you want to generate. Luckily, there are some alternatives, such as:

Most of these services give you credits upon sign-up to generate a fixed amount of images for free. Some services are free to use, but provide limited features. 

Back to the topic. Exactly as with ChatGPT, all generative AI assistants that create images need text prompts, which you can easily generate using ChatGPT.

I used this prompt for generating image descriptions on ChatGPT:

The native ads you’re creating need to have eye-catching images to grab users’ attention as soon as they look at it. The images should affect emotionally on someone who wants to travel somewhere, but thinks it’s extremely expensive, because of hotel booking prices. Write 5 detailed descriptions for different images to use with the headlines. The descriptions you write need to be clear enough to be given to a photographer or image generator so that they can create these images without any further instructions. The images should not show the product/service, but represent the situation, pain point, the emotions of a user who’s experiencing this problem, or the benefits of the solution.

The response I got was the following:

• A captivating image showcasing a young couple standing on the edge of a cliff, overlooking a breathtaking sunset. The couple’s faces are filled with wonder and awe as they embrace each other, radiating a sense of joy and adventure. The vibrant colors of the sky and the serene beauty of the landscape create a feeling of tranquility and freedom. This image represents the emotional fulfillment and unforgettable experiences that can be achieved through travel, regardless of perceived expense.

I used the first and the last one to generate images on Fotor and StarryAI. And these are some of the pictures which I got:

The second one is good, but the first one isn’t exactly what I needed, so I proceeded with another prompt for ChatGPT:

Write 5 new descriptions for images that really focus on how amazing it is to travel and live in luxury hotels all around the world.

And here’s the response:

• A captivating image capturing the grand entrance of a luxurious hotel, adorned with exquisite architecture and opulent décor. Valets stand by, ready to welcome guests with warm smiles and impeccable service. The image radiates elegance and sophistication, symbolizing the allure of living in luxury hotels worldwide and indulging in the unparalleled comfort and lavishness they offer.
• An image showcasing a beautifully appointed suite in a luxurious hotel, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views of a stunning city skyline or picturesque natural landscape. The room is adorned with plush furnishings, lavish amenities, and meticulous attention to detail. I used the third one for generating an image on Stable Diffusion, and here’s what it offered:

If you use Midjourney, you have even more options for generating a perfect image. This is an example of the prompt for ChatGPT to create a precise image description on Midjourney. 

You want to use the Midjourney AI image generator to create images that portray an amazing vacation at a luxury hotel. Write 5 different image generation prompts for the Midjourney AI image generator to create various images for this theme “A luxury hotel with a pool with a breathtaking  view.  A couple enjoys this view, while sitting in chaise lounges”. The prompts should include the correct prompt format for generating an image with a 3:2 aspect ratio.

This is what ChatGPT responses (I include only one result, because you already get the point):

“Generate an image of a couple sitting on chaise lounges by a luxurious hotel pool with a breathtaking view. The pool overlooks a serene natural landscape, with mountains in the distance and a clear blue sky above. The couple is enjoying the view, sipping refreshing drinks and basking in the warm sunlight. Ensure the image has a 3:2 aspect ratio.”

You might want to include other descriptions as well, e.g. special effects for photorealistic image, so proceed with details, such as:

Rewrite these prompts including suggestions for the best type of effects a photographer should use to prompt Midjourney to produce the most photorealistic image. 

And here’s ChatGPT’s suggestion:

“Capture a stunning, photorealistic image of a luxury hotel with a pool offering a breathtaking view. Utilize lighting techniques that accentuate the vibrant colors of the pristine beach, such as golden hour lighting for a warm and inviting atmosphere. Pay attention to details to make the image more realistic, such as capturing the shimmering reflections on the pool’s surface. Aim for a natural, unfiltered look to enhance the authenticity of the scene.”

Now you can use this prompt on Midjourney or any other AI assistant. However, keep in mind that the results with free tools might look distorted.

So as you see, by combining the headlines offered by ChatGPT with the images from AI image generators, you can easily get a portfolio of appealing creatives to test.

As an affiliate marketer, you certainly deal not only with banner ads, but also with landing pages, so let’s move on to another task.

I will go with this prompt:

For your native advertisements you need a highly effective call-to-action, which will come as a button for the visitor to click to go to the product sales page. Write 5 short but catchy CTA phrases for 5 landing pages.

What I like is the way ChatGPT classified the CTAs for different landers. All of them are about hotel deals, but they highlight different aspects: beach vacation, romantic getaways, travel experiences, etc.

Wrapping It Up

As you see, ChatGPT is a beast for everything you might need in your affiliate marketing tactics. In this article we put in highlight just 3 segments of it, however, using the same techniques you can create much more: whole pre-selling texts for landing pages, blog posts, customer reviews and even the code for landing pages.

From my experience, a free version of ChatGPT is more than enough for affiliate marketing purposes, however for perfect and quick image results, paid image generators might be better, but again, with some efforts you can gain some good results with the free ones too.
